The Korea 1957 Christmas and New Year/TB seals and Souvenir Sheet

With the Korea 1957 Christmas and New Year/TB seal, the Korea National Tuberculosis Association would also produce the first souvenir sheet of the Christmas/TB seal series, since Dr. Sherwood Hall issued a souvenir sheet in 1936 for the celebration of the 5th anniversary of the Christmas/TB seals program.

The 1957 seal was printed by lithograph on un-watermarked paper and sold in sheets of 100 (10 x 10) seals. The 1957 seal depicts a stylized monad, possibly with snowflakes surrounding the monad. The sheets were sold as perforated 11. Although the author has not seen an imperforated sheet, he has seen an imperforated pair, so perhaps an imperforated sheet exists (or existed).

The Korean Postage Stamp Catalogue (KPSC) gives the number CS16 to the 1957 seal and the value of 3,000 won ($2.40). This 1957 seal was not sold in booklets. The National Tuberculosis Association produced 5,000,000 seals or 50,000 sheets and the 1957 seal sold for 10 Hwan each. The number of seals sold was 2,820,000 copies or 28,250 sheets. As seen in 1956 for seals actually sold, it does indicate that quite a few excess sheets had been printed and not sold. The author does not know what happened to these excess sheets and if they were destroyed.
