For decades Woopyo Magazine has been the Korean language philatelic magazine. Being older than the Korean Philatelic Federation, it has been the magazine of the KPF from the very start of the KPF in the early 1980s. Woopyo is being published on a monthly basis. The magazine is however very unknown outside of Korea and its contents are a bit of an enigma for anyone not being able to write Korea. So to give an idea of what Woopyo looks like, here are both the contents and some excerpts of articles from this month’ edition.

The August 2024 issue of the Korean stamp collectors magazine “Woopyo” offers a diverse range of topics for philately enthusiasts. The magazine opens with an opinion piece by Nam Sang-wook emphasizing that true philatelic activities should involve research-driven collection efforts. It also provides a publication guide from the editorial office, detailing newly released stamps and postmarks. The “Philatelic NEWS” section, curated by the editorial team, is followed by “Overseas Topics” by Heo Jin, which discusses the issuance of UN stamps, and highlights a notable Japanese philatelist, Kawakami. Additionally, the issue includes a memorial address by Eun Jong-ho and a special segment on overseas Korean philately research by Suzuki Yasushi and Eun Jong-ho, focusing on the Dabotap airmail letter.
