The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) has a tradition of issuing stamps that celebrate UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which are recognized for their outstanding cultural, historical, and natural significance. These stamps serve not only as a means of postage but also as a powerful tool for raising awareness about the importance of preserving these sites for future generations. In its latest series for 2024, the UNPA focuses on six remarkable sites from the Republic of Korea, showcasing the rich heritage and cultural diversity of the region.
World Heritage Sites are designated under an international convention administered by UNESCO, and they hold universal value that transcends national boundaries. This concept emphasizes that these sites belong to all humanity, regardless of where they are located. By highlighting these locations through stamp issues, the UNPA aims to foster a greater appreciation for global heritage and encourage international cooperation in its preservation.

In addition to stamps issued by North and South Korea in recent years showing all sorts of historic sites on the Korean peninsual, the UNPA’s 2024 series underscores the importance of these UNESCO-designated sites. For over 25 years, the UNPA has utilized its platform to promote the significance of cultural and natural heritage, contributing to a broader understanding of our shared human history. The new stamps not only celebrate Korea’s unique contributions to this heritage but also reinforce the idea that protecting these sites is a collective responsibility.
